About Sleep Laugh and Tim Mueller
Tim Is....

EXPERIENCED

I have been working with customers, development, design, and partner teams to deliver valuable software offerings that have increased revenue and usability for almost 2 decades. I’ve had the privilege of helping to define vision, strategy, and deliver mobile, cloud, and on premise offerings in FinTech, eCommerce, AI/ML, and others that are used by millions of consumers, and fortune 500 companies around the world. I've worked at small 20 person startups, to the 10K+ employee enterprise. I strive to strike a balance of incremental improvements and innovative solutions using the latest tech and platform thinking to deliver and scale products people love. I embrace a data driven, mobile and API first product management focus, and my background in design supports my ability to build powerful, easy to use, and visually appealing software.
My most recent position was as Staff Product Manager for Reverb (Etsy). Reverb is a 2 sided e-commerce buyer/seller network for musical instruments with over 10 million monthly visitors, and $1B in yearly revenue. I was the lead PM for the iOS/Android mobile apps, helping to define strategy, and ship new feature sets that led to 10's of millions in increased incremental revenue.
Previous to Reverb, I was the lead PM for the Intuit TurboTax iOS/Android apps. During my tenure at Intuit, I helped define strategy, and execute many projects, that led to 100's of millions in increased incremental revenue.

TECHNICAL

I have dabbled in pretty much every software technology out there. From C# to Objective C, php to Ruby, and everything in between. I'm not too strong on the server side languages, but where I have spent most of my time is on the front end technologies. So I'm proficient with SwiftUI, HTML5, jQuery, JavaScript, CSS3, etc. I've also built and deployed database schemas, written regular expressions, and a lot more. I continue to learn new languages and improve my proficiency. With sites like Code School and Code Academy out there, there's realy no excuse not to learn new stuff. Coding is fun, I really enjoy building things.

DESIGN CENTRIC

I tend to lean towards function following form, so I approach all my projects with a design and user experience first mindset. I spend a lot of time in Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. getting designs just right. It's amazing to see the success of the iPhone, due mostly to it's meticulous design of iOS. The iPhone is not the most powerful and feature packed product in the market, but I believe it does has the best designed. The loyalty numbers of iPhone vs Android are very telling of how much people fall in love with the design. Further, the recent court battles between Apple and Samsung reveal just how much the Apple design has been modeled in the industry. I don't agree with how Apple tries to hang on to some very generic design elements (rounded corners, come on), but as a designer, I can respect some of the innovations they are fighting for.
In a recent survey, 91 percent of surveyed iPhone owners plan to purchase another iPhone, only 76 percent of Android users intend to purchase another Android device. And while 6 percent of iPhone owners indicated an intention to defect to Android, the bulk of Android defectors will be heading towards the iPhone, 18 percent to be exact.

I try not to be a fan boy of anything, but those numbers are very telling. Of course design alone, without a useful feature set won't produce a successful product, but I do believe the inverse (fully featured, poorly designed) won't be successful. As such, design runs in my veins. My Dad is a designer, his dad was a designer, I've held several positions as a designer, and I believe it makes me who I am today.

EDUCATED

I've got a BS in Business Administration from Cal State San Marcos. My emphasis there was in High Technology Management (aka MIS). I've also taken a few cources online for various programming languages. I continue to learn new things everyday, and constantly go through tutorials online. Whether it be for design, prgramming, process, etc.

PASSIONATE

I pour my heart into everything I do. Whether it be work or home, it your heart is into it, the results will show. This can translate into late nights and weekends sometimes, but if that's what it takes to get it done right, then so be it.

CREATIVE

Nothing excites me more than getting to come up with new ideas and help change the world. Creativity runs in my blood, and I think that if you aren't trying new things and dreaming of new paradigms, then you're work can get very boring which translates into lack of interest and eventually poor products and results. Staring into the horizon to imagine how to push the limits keeps me alive.

THE SLEEP LAUGH STORY

I love my kids with all my heart. When they have a great day, meaning... they have enough food in their bellioes, aren't sick, and are happy, they laugh in his sleep. It is the cutest thing in the world, and inspires me to work as hard as I can to be the best Dad, Husband, and provider I can be. That's the main idea behind the Sleep Laugh name and logo.
